The unique mix of city and country - and cultures from all over - has given birth to a thriving culinary community dedicated to satisfying just about any appetite.
Local favorites include the AQ Chicken House, serving country-fried chicken since the 1930s; James at the Mill, a James Beard Award-winning culinary experience featuring Ozark Plateau cuisine; Bordino's, a northern Italian venue that's chock-full of atmosphere; the Blackboard, featuring a sophisticated French menu; Basil's, a trendy nouvelle bistro in Pinnacle; Fred's Hickory Inn, where the signature Smoked Sirloin has drawn a crowd since the seventies; and Herman's Rib House, such a revered institution that it's packed nightly despite lacking any sign at all on its weathered exterior.
