Dining

If your favorite pastime involves a fork and a napkin, you're in luck. Northwest Arkansas offers everything from signature fine cuisine to your favorite fast food. From authentic Mexican to Thai, barbecue to bistro, surf to turf. The unique mix of city and country - and cultures from all over - has given birth to a thriving culinary community dedicated to satisfying just about any appetite.

Local favorites include the AQ Chicken House, serving country-fried chicken since the 1930s; James at the Mill, a James Beard Award-winning culinary experience featuring Ozark Plateau cuisine; Bordino's, a northern Italian venue that's chock-full of atmosphere; the Blackboard, featuring a sophisticated French menu; Basil's, a trendy nouvelle bistro in Pinnacle; Fred's Hickory Inn, where the signature Smoked Sirloin has drawn a crowd since the seventies; and Herman's Rib House, such a revered institution that it's packed nightly despite lacking any sign at all on its weathered exterior.

Then, of course, there are the popular national and regional chains, like Chili's, Applebee's, Ruby Tuesday, Red Lobster, Cracker Barrel, Outback Steak House, Johnny Carino's, Copeland's, On the Border, Colton's, and the Olive Garden.

In the days of the browser wars between Netscape and Microsoft, many hacks were propagated by the competing companies. However, today these hacks have done more to hurt the Web than to help the battling companies.
